Canadian film on Kolkata doctor murder gets a dozen international film festival awards

 

Kaashful, the first, and perhaps only documentary surrounding the heinous R.G. Kar rape and murder case in Kolkata, chronicles the uprising following a human tragedy that shook West Bengal for over three months last year. The film makes a soul-wrenching dig at the guilty. 

Already the recipient of 11 international film festival laurels, including 5 international Film festival awards in various categories, Kaashful is a powerful, uncompromising exploration of the tragic R.G. Kar rape and murder case that shook India in 2024, and triggered one of the most significant grassroots movements in Bengal, since Independence.

Directed by gold medalist Canadian filmmaker, Kolkata-born Aneesh Chatterjee, and produced by KAA Media Films (Canada), the film features an innovative visual metaphor in the form of a clay statue of the Devil, specially crafted by renowned sculptor Debayal Pal.
